The town has many splendid public gardens and parks. Meads Road is close to the Old Town and from Compton Park and the Golf Course you can walk over the downs to the Long Man of Wilmington at Windover Hill.

The A27 runs about six miles north of Eastbourne and connects the town with Lewes to the west, about 20 miles, and Hastings to the east, about 17 miles. Seaford is about ten miles and Bexhill-on-Sea eleven miles. Trains to London ( Victoria) take about an hour and a half.
