Swindon was known as Suindone at Domesday and belonged to the Bishop of Bayeux and had two mills. Today Swindon has many facilities and amenities with art galleries, cinema centres, leisure and sports clubs, parks and gardens and several out-of-town shopping centres. The town is still expanding today with considerable new development to the north-west. There are many interesting places to visit nearby including the White Horse, Waylands' Smithy and Uffington Castle.
